Cremation Important Details

Choosing cremation is a personal decision that depends on various factors, including cultural, religious, and individual preferences. It’s essential to consider these points and discuss them with family members to make an informed choice.

  • Mobility and Portability: Cremated remains are portable, allowing family members to keep their loved ones close, regardless of location. This option particularly benefits families who move frequently or live far from the deceased’s burial site.
  • Waiting Period:  In Massachusetts, there is a 48-hour waiting period before cremation can take place.
  • Simplicity and Convenience: Cremation can be simpler and quicker than traditional burial. It often involves fewer logistical considerations, making it easier for families to plan and carry out final arrangements, especially during a difficult time.
  • Medical Examiner Documentation: During this time, the Casper team will secure the medical examiner’s signature of authorization and certification.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: Cremation is more affordable than traditional burial. It eliminates the need for a casket, burial plot, and other associated costs such as a headstone or grave marker. This makes cremation a more accessible option for families that wish to pay less.
  • Environmental Concerns: Cremation can be seen as an environmentally friendly option compared to traditional burial, which often involves embalming chemicals, non-biodegradable caskets, and land use for burial plots. Modern cremation practices also focus on reducing emissions and environmental impact.
  • Flexibility in Memorialization: Cremation provides flexibility in terms of memorialization. Ashes can be kept in an urn, scattered in a meaningful location, or incorporated into keepsakes like jewelry or memorial stones. This allows for a personalized approach to honoring the deceased’s memory.

Cremation is the process of reducing a body to ashes using high heat. This process occurs in a specially designed furnace called a cremation chamber or retort. The remains, also known as cremated remains or ashes, are then collected and placed in an urn or another container chosen by the family.

Yes, many families choose to have a funeral service or viewing before the cremation, at an additional cost for services. This allows friends and family to pay their respects and say their goodbyes in a traditional manner. The body can be present in a casket for these services, like a traditional funeral.

In addition to the $1,395 Simplicity Cremation, there are several optional services for the final disposition of cremated remains, including:

Burial: The ashes can be buried in a cemetery plot.
Columbarium: The ashes can be placed in a niche within a columbarium, which is a structure designed to house urns.
Scattering: The ashes can be scattered in a meaningful location, such as a garden, forest, or at sea.
Keepsake Urns and Jewelry: Portions of the ashes can be kept in small urns or made into jewelry as keepsakes for family members.

Cremation is generally more affordable than a traditional funeral and burial. The costs associated with embalming, a casket, and a burial plot are often higher than the costs for cremation services and a basic urn. However, the total cost can vary based on additional services, such as memorial services, viewings, or special urns.
